Sasha Staye is a well-known photojournalist with years of experience and a long list of accolades. In fact, she’s up for a prestigious award that would take her career to a global level. Sasha appreciates her success, but her true love for photography is about giving voices to those underserved and often overlooked people in her community.

Sasha is the product of a dysfunctional childhood, lives with unresolved trauma and grief, and therefore carries the burden of obsessively pleasing everyone. We see early on that despite doing what she loves in her career and in the
community, she is stressed out.

In addition to her photography, Sasha works full time running the women’s empowerment center her grandmother and mother opened. She is committed to preserving her family’s legacy. Under Sasha’s leadership, the center, which
provides valuable resources and shelter for abused and unhoused women, has thrived, and is the lifeline of the neighborhood.

The clients at the center demand more and more of Sasha’ time, and the thought of disappointing them gives her high anxiety. Sasha’s best friend, who is well intentioned and has her back, often takes advantage of her. Sasha’s estranged dad reappears in her life, but she still thinks she has everything under control and refuses to hire a therapist.

Sasha’s sense of control is tested when the center and her career are at risk of failing, all while dealing with the drama that is her father. This crisis turns her world upside down and escalates her stress and anxiety levels to an all-time high. Sasha doesn’t realize her self-neglect comes at a high price: her mental health and well-being. Her life teeters on the brink of losing everything.

Will Sasha get the help she needs, or will she hit rock bottom and stay there? Will the woman known for saying “yes” find the courage to say “no” and put herself first? Sasha’s story takes us on a journey of self-exploration as we root for her to heal and stay emotionally healthy, as life tears her down.
